Glass types

Toughened glass In the majority of our windows we employ toughened glass; this is a glass with a strength around 5 times that of ordinary glass. In case of breakage, toughened glass falls apart into small non-hazardous pieces. Toughened glass can be recognised from the logo that is etched into the glass. It is available in thicknesses of 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15 and 19 mm.

Laminated glass On request, laminated glass can also be used. This consists of two or more layers of untoughened glass, with a layer of plastic film between each layer of glass. This glass has the same strength as ordinary glass of the same thickness. In case of breakage however a crack appears in the glass and the shards are kept together by the film.

Double glazing This can be supplied in fixed or opening windows. An important advantage of double glazing is the reduced chance of steamed-up windows.

Tinted glass You can also order your glazing in various colours such as grey, green, bronze or blue. This has the advantage of letting less heat into the cabin in summer, and reduced visibility from outside. However on those grey Dutch days it does seem to get dull inside more quickly and you tend to switch on the lights earlier. Also while sailing in the dusk or at night tinted glass is no advantage.

Curved glass By using a form curved glass can be made out of toughened or ordinary glass.

Antireflection glass Glass that is made antireflective with a metal coating.

Heated glass For some applications electrically heated glazing can be supplied.

Other glass options Window with spinning pane in one of the front windows with as advantage a permanently clear view. It is also possible to bore a hole in the glass for a windscreen wiper.
